The MJLD are proud to announce their charity for the 2018-2019 term as Chasing the Stigma.

This year the MJLD committee have selected Liverpool based mental health charity, Chasing the Stigma, to support.

The charity aims to remove unnecessary stigmas attached to mental illness by sharing experiences to normalise and humanise the topic. It aims to create a narrative to get everyone talking about mental health to ultimately

Founder, comedian and writer, Jake Mills created the charity as a result of his own battles with depression. It began with Jake opening up about his own experiences on social media. His story then went viral and was shared with millions of people world-wide.

Everyone in the world has mental health, which means any one of us could suffer with poor metal health at one point in our lives.

Suicide is the biggest killer of young people in the UK and the biggest single killer of men under 45. It is therefore vital we know what to do if we or someone we know is struggling.

At Chasing the Stigma they have created the Hub of Hope, which is a first of its kind database making help and support accessible and easy to find. It is a resource currently being used across the country by organisations such as National Suicide Prevention Alliance, Papyrus , Rethink Mental Illness and many others.

As a charity, they rely almost entirely on public donations and any money raised will go direct into continuing to support those struggling with their mental health across the UK.

As part of our fundraising this year we will be helping Chasing the Stigma to continue to grow their Hub of Hope. Our Committee will be taking part in events throughout the year and we are always looking for as many members to get involved as possible.

Over the coming 12 months the MJLD will be organising events to raise money to help Chasing the Stigma to continue to grow and do the life-changing work they do. Full details of those events will be shortly announced on our ‘events’ page.

To start things off, we have set up a JustGiving page where our members can donate. Please give generously to this amazing local cause.

Santa Dash 03/12/2017

Some of our committee took part in the Santa Dash around Liverpool City Centre on Sunday! It was a great event and we raised more money towards our £6000 target for Clatterbridge!

HellRunner 14/10/2017 & Scouse 5k 15/10/2017:

Our Vice-Chairman, Mike Fagan completed HellRunner at Delamere Forest on Saturday 14 October! This was a fantastic effort by Mike and provided a further opportunity to raise money for Clatterbridge’s “Let’s Build Project” and the MJLD’s Corporate Challenge.

Only a day later, alongside Mike, our Chairman Ali, Fundraisers Lydia and Hannah and Social Representative Katie all took part in the Scouse 5k on Sunday 15 October to raise even more money for Clatterbridge! (Yes, that is 2 runs in 2 days for Mike!)

To date, the MJLD have raised over £800 of our £6000 target! A great effort and start of the Committee Year!

clatterbridgeThe MJLD are proud to announce their charity for the 2017-2018 term as The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre is one of the UK’s leading cancer centres. From 10 operating sites across Merseyside and Cheshire, they make almost 221,000 patient contacts to around 30,000 individual patients every year offering pioneering chemotherapy, radiotherapy and proton therapy treatment.

We are dedicated in providing support by helping to raise funds for pioneering research, the latest cancer treatments and vital services ranging from new innovations to the special touches that help change lives.

Our Committee will be taking part in a number of events throughout the year and we are always looking for as many members to get involved.
